Child Safety
Your baby's safety is important. Spend some time making your home and car a safe place for your baby.
Don't forget to check fire and smoke alarms.
Changing Tables
A changing table is a convenient place for changing and dressing your infant. Never leave your baby unattended or turn your back. They can easily fall off even before they can roll over by themselves.
Car Seat Safety
More children are killed as passengers in car crashes than from any other type of injury. Using a car safety seat correctly can help prevent injuries to your child. Newborns are required, without exception, to be secured in a car safety seat for their trip home from the hospital. Kentucky law requires children 40 inches or less to be restrained in a car safety seat. If you need help installing your car seat, contact the Health Department or call the Special Delivery Nursery.
Sun Safety
Babies under 6 months of age should be kept out of the direct sunlight. Move your baby to the shade or under a tree, umbrella, or the stroller canopy. Apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going outside, and use sunscreen even on cloudy days. Try to keep children out of the sun between 10 AM and 4 PM when the sun's rays are strongest.
